Interview with John mejia

An exploration of creativity

I have to confess, John is one of my favorite people, so I'm a bit biased. But don't let that take away from his message and all that he has to offer. I’m always amazed at his willingness to explore, take risks, and do so with the kindest of hearts. He is super modest, so I'll tell you a few things about him that he may not offer himself:

Tell me how you fill your days. Think big picture: current business/career, interests, and areas that you're passionate about making a difference in:

Community, writing, and personal finance

Ah, creativity. A word that brings up so many different things for people. What does the word stir up in you and how has that changed over time?

Freedom to explore and express aspects of my personality - change over time is giving myself the permission to consider myself a creative person and explore my creativity.

As a child, was your creativity encouraged or downplayed? Were there any early champions of your creativity that shaped your path?

Neither encouraged or downplayed.

Creativity, like most things in life, can be a meandering path. Where did you see yourself 20 years ago and how does that compare to where you find yourself now?

That's part of my challenge as I have been horrible at planning, making goals.

Are there any routines or habits that you have to keep your creative practice healthy?

Reading, talking to people, seeing what others are doing...all practices that help in my creativity

So often people get asked what their proudest moment is, or biggest success. Let's try something different. What is your biggest failure? Any interesting take-aways from that?

I guess not taking a chance at different opportunities that presented themselves out of fear...One that comes to mind was when I was in college I was given the chance to be in a play. I didn't take it.
